The Insurgency

Portuguese Cinema has a long tradition and has been featured in news publications worldwide. Directors like Manoel de Oliveira and João César Monteiro, among others, have gained Portuguese cinema international attention. However - and there is always a however as well when dealing with Portuguese stuff and material - the lack of movies that at least try to depict or portray our reality and, on the other hand, the unexplainable incapacity to communicate with the viewers are obvious problems. These two things, not to mention the high prices of tickets and snacks, "scare the crap out of everybody" who wants to see good cinema. Nevertheless, I believe that I have an idea that could solve all these knotty problems. The solution is to look at the problem from a different angle. We should be proud of us and wherever we go we should show others that we are not less than anyone else. In order to do it, I suggest that we start to face our own Cinema the same way that we all do with our national football team. How? Let me ask you this: How do the Portuguese people see their own national team? With passion. So, people need to start to support Portuguese Cinema, the same way. Make sure you bring your scarf, your vocal chords and your Portuguese flag next time you attend a national movie. Scream like a girl, jump higher than ever before, get your hands up - Let's support it! Let's save our beloved Cinema...
